Newsletter #070
Welcome to another edition of The Write Stuff—your weekly round-up of useful resources we’ve found online, specifically for content writers.
This week we’re talking about how to ask for a raise (like, exactly how to ask for it), mapping your ideal workday, and answering your contract questions…plus scroll to the bottom to see how you can learn how to market yourself as a freelance writer.
How to Ask for a Raise as a Freelance Writer
Asking for a raise is a daunting task that most likely will end up getting pushed back days, weeks, or even months. We don’t like to talk about money, or ask for more…but that’s a mindset shift we challenge you to get out of. Asking for a raise is just another conversation, equivalent to asking the barista if they have plant-based milk options. To prove it, check out how simply Brooklin Nash recently asked his client for a raise (we spy the perfect template to snag).

How To Map Your Ideal Workday As A Freelance Writer
What does the perfect workday in the life of a freelance writer look like? Well, you’ll have to decide that on your own. But, we can give you some guidance. Check out Kaleigh Moore’s article on how to map out your ideal workday for maximum productivity (and enjoyment).

Do You Need a Freelance Contract? (and Other Common Contract Questions)
Starting as a freelance writer means you’re figuring out a lot. You’re not *just* trying to master the craft of writing, you have to become a business owner, too. That’s a lot! Get the most help you can by having other freelancers tell you how to avoid the mistakes they’ve made in the past. In this article, Kat Boogard talks about freelance contracts and answers contract FAQS—we know you want to read this one.

Have you figured out how to market yourself as a freelance writer?
When I figured out what clients were looking for and how I could show them I was the best writer for the job, I started to market myself as their ideal writer. I went from an anonymous writer on Upwork to a writer who gets DMs and emails from people asking to hire me (Eva in 2017 would be SO relieved to hear this).
I've turned a DM interested in working with me into a $30,000+ retainer contract.
And the only reason it happened was that I figured out how to market myself as a freelance writer.
It's time for you to learn, too.
Join the How to Market Yourself as a Freelance Writer Masterclass (writers have already signed up!) on Friday, December 10th from 12:00pm-2:30pm PT (if you can't make it live, you'll get access to the replay).
